The International Court of Justice — 75 Years in the Service of Peace and Justice, a new book marking the 75th anniversary of the inaugural sitting of the Court, will soon be available in English and French on the UN iLibrary website. Produced entirely by the Registry of the Court, it has been designed specifically with the general public in mind. Each short chapter covers a different facet of the institution, including its human face.

The International Court of Justice announces the publication of the two volumes of I.C.J. Pleadings, Immunities and Criminal Proceedings (Equatorial Guinea v. France). These volumes of the I.C.J. Pleadings contain the Application instituting proceedings, the written pleadings, the verbatim records of the hearings and other documents filed by the Parties in the case.

On 19 May 2022, H.E. Mr. Nikolaos Dendias, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic, accompanied by a large delegation, paid a visit to the Court. Mr. Dendias and his delegation were received by H.E. Judge Joan E. Donoghue, President of the Court, and H.E. Mr. Philippe Gautier, Registrar. During the meeting, the President of the Court mentioned its high level of activity. The Greek Minister expressed his country’s ongoing support to the Court.

Germany withdraws its Request for the indication of provisional measures in the case concerning Questions of Jurisdictional Immunities of the State and Measures of Constraint against State-Owned Property (Germany v. Italy). The public hearings devoted to this request, which were due to open on 9 May 2022, have been cancelled. By an Order dated 10 May 2022, the Court placed on record the withdrawal by Germany of its Request.

On 29 April 2022, the Federal Republic of Germany instituted proceedings against the Italian Republic for allegedly failing to respect its jurisdictional immunity as a sovereign State and requested the Court to indicate provisional measures.

On 21 April 2022, the International Court of Justice delivered its Judgment in the case concerning Alleged Violations of Sovereign Rights and Maritime Spaces in the Caribbean Sea (Nicaragua v. Colombia) by which it found that Colombia had violated Nicaragua’s sovereign rights and jurisdiction in the latter’s exclusive economic zone.
